Laserjet P1102W
Windows 8.1

Hello.

I have followed all instructions from HP in regards to enabling 'wireless direct' (also called Wifi Direct) on the HP Laserjet P1102W printer.

The instructions say to "access the Embedded Web Server, then click Networking, then click Wireless Direct Setup, then check box  next to Wireless Direct Printing Name (SSID), and then enter the network name (SSID) in the field."

However, there are no options or buttons or anything even remotely close to 'Wireless Direct Setup'.  Even the 'Wireless' tab under networking yields no options for Wireless Direct, only the option to change the printer to an adhoc connection type, which I know WIFI direct is, but that will make the printer useless for printing from other non wifi direct devices.

Firmware is current version 20130703.

Please help

Hello there! Welcome to the forums @joshb1986 Smiley Happy

See the below image from the User Guide for your Laserjet P1102w. It does not support Wireless Direct. I would suggest following this link to set up your printer: Setting Up the Printer for a Wireless Network for the HP LaserJet Pro P1102w Printer

I hope this helps answer your question, have a great New YearSmiley Happy

Thank you for your replay @Rainbow7000

I do see that the user guide says the p1102w does not support direct print, however there are other threads on this support forum saying that it is a misprint and the p1102w DOES support direct print: (See post #3 and #4)

http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Printer-Networking-and-Wireless/Adhoc-setup-problem-Laserjet-Pro-P1102w...

Also, on HP's own website for the p1102w, it clearly states that direct print IS supported:

"Easily print from mobile devices—without a network—using HP ePrint Wireless Direct Printing. "

http://store.hp.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/us/en/pdp/printers/hp-laserjet-pro-p1102w-printer-ce65...

This thread speaks of a user seeking to change the SSID for direct print:

http://h30499.www3.hp.com/t5/Printers-LaserJet/LaserJet-P-1102w-How-to-setup-HP-direct-print-SSID/td...

There is also an HP product support page for the P1102W outlineing how to use direct print:

Please review these links and advise. Thank you

Hi there joshb,

Thanks for getting back to me.

I have been looking in to this for you and found that there are actually two models of the P1102w model and one of them has the Wireless Direct feature, while the other does not. If you did have the Wireless Direct model, you would have seen the options in the Embedded Web Server to set it up, as you stated you didn't notice while you checked the EWS, so you most likely have the model without the WD feature. The two model numbers are "ce658a" and "ce657a". The ce658a seems to have the Wireless Direct capability.

Here are the two models and their specs:

"The instructions say to "access the Embedded Web Server, then click Networking, then click Wireless Direct Setup, then check box  next to Wireless Direct Printing Name (SSID), and then enter the network name (SSID) in the field."

I hope this helps clear some confusion with the Wireless Direct.

Let me know if you have any questions!

Have a great Tuesday 🙂
