I have a HP OfficeJet Pro 8710 - All in One Series Printer. I am using a Dell Latitude E6330 Laptop. I am unable to scan from the printer to the computer. It prints just fine when I print out a document - it just will not scan.
Things I have tried:
Unloading and reinstalling printer
USB Cable - still does not work with it.
HP Scan Doctor - will save the test scan and I can print it but that's it.
Conversed with HP yesterday and they stated it was the router and to get USB cable - did but no change
Have unplugged, turned off and restarted so many times.
When I go to the Home Screen on the printer and try to scan - it says that computer has not been set up and to go to HP Digital Filing using HP software. Well I did that and it says the "Page cannot be reached"
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Hello, @ClaireJDR – Hope you are well 🙂
Allow me to welcome you to the HP support forums! It is a great place to find the help you need, from other users, HP experts, and other support personnel.
I see that you are having issues while scanning from your HP Officejet 8710 printer. I see that the issue is going on for some time & appreciate all your efforts in diagnosing the issue 🙂 I will do my best to find you a solution!
You mentioned you cannot scan from the printer control panel. But, did you try scanning from HP Scan software that comes with the printer driver? If you open the HP printer icon on your desktop, you will notice the HP Scan option. Try using the HP scan and then try scanning from your PC. Let me know if that works.
Also, what is the operating system on your PC? If it is Windows 8.1 or 10, try using the HP Scan and capture app to scan. Go to http://hp.care/2blYeTL to download and install the HP Scan and capture. Let me know how that goes.
Please let me know if this resolves the issue, or if you require further assistance.
Good luck 🙂

Hi @ClaireJDR,
Thanks for using the HP Forums. Apologies for jumping in here.
How to Scan to Computer
Once you have installed the software:
1. Click on the printer Icon (on your desktop) and it will bring up the HP Printer Assistant.
2. Under the Scan menu, there is a “Manage Scan to Computer”, click on that.
3. Make sure that you “Enable” Scan to Computer. Also make sure the tab “Automatically start Scan to Computer when I log on to Windows” is checked if you want to make this feature permanent. (the following video will show you how)

Hope that helps!

Thank you for your help. I downloaded the HP Scan and Capture and that seemed to work with scanning from the computer. But now the issue that I am still continuing to have is that when I go to the printer and try to scan from the printer to the computer by using the buttons on the printer - it keeps giving me the message that it cannot find the computer. I know that there is a way to do it because I have had it work at other places of business. If you could possibly give me a suggestion on the proper steps to that it would be appreciated.
I am using Windows 8.1
Thank you.

Hi @ClaireJDR
In order to enable scan to computer, you need to install the FULL feature software.
If you have not installed the FULL feature software, the following resource will help you :
http://123.hp.com/us/en/
Key in your printer model, Operating System and download & install the FULL feature software.
Once you have installed the FULL feature software, go to the Desktop mode and there will be a Printer icon (HP Officejet Pro 8710 icon)
Click on that and it will start the HP Printer Assistant. Select Scan and there is a feature "Manage Scan to Computer". Make sure that it is "Enabled". If you want to start the feature automatically every time you start up WIndows, make sure the box at the bottom is checked as well.
This video will show you how it's done:
Hope that helps!
