The only error message I get is the one appearing on the Glass Window of the Printer simply advising that "Unable to send or receive faxes"

Hi @Sebego,
Welcome to the HP Forums 🙂 I would like to take a moment and thank you for using this forum, it is a great place to find answers. For you to have the best experience on the HP forum, you could also visit our HP Forums Guide for the First Time Here? Learn How to Post and More.
I see from the post that you are having an issue with sending and receiving fax using your HP OfficeJet printer. I would like to assist you today with this error state. Be aware that normally when you get the message 'unable to send or receive faxes' as a pop up on the screen of your printer it indicates a fax failure. This would mean that the fax modem within your printer is defective. It has nothing to do with a phone cable or fax settings, but rather the fax hardware built into your printer. If the fax modem is defective than a whole unit replacement may be needed to correct this issue. With that being said, I am going to have you perform some troubleshooting steps to see if we can resolve this fax modem failure.
Please make sure that the power cable is plugged directly into the wall, not a surge protector.
Next thing, is to perform a Hard reset on the printer.
With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer and also unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
Remove USB cable, if present.
Wait for 2-3 minutes, press and hold the power button on your printer for about 30 seconds to remove any additional charge.
Now plug back the power cable straight to a wall outlet without any surge protector or an extension cord and then plug back the power cord to the printer.
Turn on the printer and wait till warm-up period finishes and the printer is idle.
Next thing, I would suggest here is to check for the latest firmware update if available for your printer, using this link.
Also, check for the dial tone, If there is no dial tone on your phone line, I would definitely recommend you to contact your phone provider!
