HP Photosmart D110a
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

My laptop is an HP ZBook 17 G2.  I'm connected to the printer wireless.  I can print just fine but unable to scan.  I have run the HP Print and Scan doctor.  It recognizes my printer but does not give me the option to scan.  When I try to scan to PC from the printer I receive the error message: Try scan from computer or see documentation which is no help.

Appreciate any assistance.

Hi,

Thanks for using the HP forum.

Can you download and install the FULL feature printer software from HP for your operating system:

http://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/hp-photosmart-e-all-in-one-printer-series-d110/40232...

Once you have downloaded and installed the FULL feature software, you will be able to print and scan.

How to Scan to Computer

In order to scan from Printer to Computer, you would need to install the Full feature Printer software first.
Once you have installed the software,

1. Click on the printer Icon (on your desktop) and it will bring up the HP Printer Assistant.
2. Under the Scan menu, there is a "Manage Scan to Computer", click on that.
3. Make sure that you "Enable" the Scan to Computer. Also make sure the tab "Automatically start Scan to Computer when i log on to Windows" is check if you want to have this feature permanent. (an example is shown below)

Hope that helps.

To the original author.... I have downloaded this software update, and it still doesn't fix the problem.  It would be great if it did, and one would think it should, but the reality is that it doesn't.  Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

Hi @dlocke

Thanks for using the HP Forums.

What printer are you using and what operating system?

Was your issue purely not able to install or others?

Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling the FULL feature software?

Can you try this Uninstaller from Microsoft and then reinstall the FULL feature software again?

Let us know if that works!

I am using the HP PhotoSmart D110A.  I have Windows 10 (latest version).  I have uninstalled previously and reinstalled when this kept happening.  I don't feel that a quality product has to be uninstalled so frequently and re-installed to get it to work.  Yes there are things that cause difficulties, I get that, but I looked last night and it says it has disconnected from the network over 100 times.... That is unreasonable in my opinion.

Hi @dlocke,

Can you try using a TCP/IP port?

Create a TCP IP port

1. Print a Configuration Page to get the printer's IPv4 address (you can also tap on the wireless icon on the Front panel of your Printer to get the IP address)
2. On your PC, go to Control Panel, from Devices and Printers, right click the printer and left click Printer Properties, select the Ports tab.
3. Click Add Port, select Standard TCP/IP Port, then select New Port and follow the wizard.
4. Type in the proper IP address for the printer.

This video resource will show you how to do it:

Create & Use TCP IP port

Note that you can ALWAYS revert back to the original port that the HP software installed by selecting the HP port under the Ports tab (in Printer Properties)

Let us know if that works
