unicode font printing trouble for indian languages.

The Deskjet F4288 All-in-One printer (in common with many (although not all)  inkjet printers) uses a Page Description Language (printer language) referred to as PCL3 GUI.

 

This (and the similar PCL3 Enhanced) language is proprietary to HP; as such, detailed specifications of the language are not generally available.

 

However, it is known that these languages are raster-based: the printer driver converts all objects (text, images, etc.) in the source document on the workstation into the equivalent encapsulated PCL-format raster images (but using a proprietary compression method).

 

The printer just unencapsulates and uncompresses these images, and prints the resultant dots.

 

So any problem with printing the wrong characters is not a problem  with the printer itself, but due to limitations, or faults, within the printer driver and/or its interaction with the source application and/or operating system routines.
