I had same issues with my Canon MF 4150, so not HP (solution may be slightly different). But I love HP products so hope this is helpful to you also. Like other post said, set "RPC (locater)" program to "start" running. It should not be on "Manual." That was the only program I had to start. Then restart the PC. You should not have to repeat that.

Now, close all apps. Open task manager (contrl/alt/del).  Expand. Find "Service Host: Windows Image Acquisition." Don't expand with the arrow on left--just click to highlight it.  END task. Check "abandon data." Shut down the task manager.   NOW--try to scan. It should woirk. You don't have to restart the Windows Image  Acquisition program--the act of scanning will restart it in the background. If your scan function hangs up again, repeat the "end task" sequence on the "Service Host: Windows Image Acquistion" program.

Looking at list of services.  WIA does not appear.

How did you get the scanner to work again?

Has anyone learned of a fix for this?  I am experiencing the same issue on a new HP Officejet Pro 6830.

I had a go, although very simple (but it worked). See messages 62 and 64.

The easiest way I have found to use my scanner on my 210A is to just use the web interface by going to the IP address for the printer and scanning works beautifully from there. Also works for the Mac platform

The flash player is involved in the issue, or at least my issue. My scanner started working after I went to the Flash Player website and did the flash player test.

You said that you have downloaded the App, then you have to go to this App for scanning and as well as printing something!

no need to go to control panel or anywhere, just open this App then you will see it there.

Hope it helps!
