Just another form of planned obsolescence (aka screw the consumer and keep hp in business).

The next printer won't be hp.

On some printers (4500) there is a clear flexible celluloid cover over the flourescent tube. The inner side length is tucked under the white underside lid. Flip open (unhook) the tucked length to expose & clean its backside & the tube.

If this helped please give Kudos to bubble it up closer to the top of replies so that others may find it more quickly. I spent a bit of time looking thru the net not finding this solution anywhere.  In desperation I examined the hardware & decided this was the only thing that could possibly cause "only the ADF streaks".

I tried the procedure of unplugging power from printer and wall outlet - vertical lines still appear when using feeder, not flatbed screen. Any other suggestions?

Similar experience. Frustrated to have to replace hp scanner/printer/copier again shortly after warranty expiry. Planned obsolence? More for the landfill? Maybe Costco will hold hp feet to fire for me.
