My HP printer disappeared from my ASUS WIndows 7 notebook. I reinstalled and can once again print, but can no longer scan. When I am in PhotoShop 4, I click on File, Import, WIA Support. Then I get the message that "No WIA Compatible Devices were Detected."

Hello Walter
What printer do you have? Are you able to scan from any other application such as Paint or Windows Fax and Scan?
Scanning without Using HP Software
Also have you tried running the HP Print and Scan Doctor? It is a good diagnostic utility that can sometimes find or resolve printer problems. It also makes sure Windows Image Acquisition (WIA) is working properly.

Hello Walter
What did the Print and Scan Doctor say? Also were you able to scan from other applications?

The print and scan doctor did not indicate any problems were detected. I was surprised that it only seemed to look at printing but not scanning. It has been a few days so I don't remember the details. I don't know of any applications besides PhotoShop that will allow me to scan.

When I ran print and scan doctor I reached the screen that said "select and option" and the only option available was "fix printing." Nothing about "fix scanning." It is acting as if no scanner driver was ever installed!

Hello Walter
When you open the HP Print and Scan Doctor does it say 2.0 in the top left of the window?
The steps below will help you check WIA to make sure it and any services it depends on are all running correctly. Let me know what happens.
1. Type services.msc in run or search program and files
2. Scroll down to the WIA Windows Image Acquisition
3. Make sure that this service is running. Click Stop, and then Restart to make sure
4. Restart the computer
Restart the Dependencies services:
1. Click on Start, in Search box type “services” without quotes.
2. Scroll down until you see Windows Image Acquisition (WIA).
3. Double click on it and go to the tab called Dependencies.
4. 2 services should be listed.
5. Exit that window and look for Remote Procedure Call (RPC).
6. Make sure it’s on manual or if it is on Auto, just leave it. Make sure the service is started though.
7. Go to Shell Hardware Detection and Double click.
8. Set the Start up Type as Manual and hit Apply.
9. You should be able to Start the service by hitting Start.
10. Now you are done and the Twain Manager should be working and not give you an error.
Check dependencies or sub dependencies:
Right click on WIA (Windows Imaging Acquisition) selecting first properties and then the dependencies tab. It should list: Remote Procedure Call RPC and Shell Hardware Detection
Under RPC it will then list DCOM Service Process Launcher and RPC Endpoint Mapper Go back to the main services.msc list and then right click and start all the items listed as dependencies or sub dependencies under WIA.
