What happens when a printhead is bad on the HP Officejet Pro 8500 A909n Series Printer? The other day my printer would not print blue. It printed this weird color pink with lines through it instead of the color blue that was on the document.

first u can tell the heads are bad by printing a test.
when doing a print head test the colors will come out with lines and ghsoting ( not a solid color. either clean the heads but reccommend replace them...The print head is the unit that moves back and forth inside of your ink-jet printer when you are producing a hard copy version of your file. Without it, there is no way for ink to transfer to paper. Sometimes the print head gets clogged and dirty and simply needs a thorough cleaning, but in other cases it may be irreparably damaged due to overuse, age, jamming, or other issues, and must be replaced.
