Brighthouse networks closes tcp and (i assume) udp ports. Port tcp 80 was closed, therefore my http server wouild not communicate. I have had them turn it on and it works. My printer will not communicate over the network and I assume the same culprit is behind it.
I have look over your sites and am unable to ascertain what port (tcp or udp) my printer uses.
If someone will communicate that info I will be humbly indebted to you.
Peace,

typically that would be TCP - there is usally a drop down box to enable you to select either TCP/UDP - unfortunately I think that setting is only available via the printers embedded web server.
You can check what port your printer driver is using currently by right clicking the printer driver, selecting printer properties, and check the ports tab.
You may want to disable DHCPv6 and IPv6 as well set the IPv4 setting to "manual" control versus dhcp
if you have a network cable plugged into the back of the printer, do you see one stable green light and a fast blinking random amber light? This would at least let you know the printer is on the network and seeing network activity.
You can find out what network settings your printer is using by selecting admin/reports/ configuration page or network summary via the printers control panel.

Thanks for your reply. Here is a list of info as to what was occurring :
After completing the installation according to your documentation I powered up the network and computers. The first step involved was assigning the ip address for the printer (192.168.0.8). The printer did not correctly configure as it should have. I went over all printer settings on the printer input and changed several of them one at a time. No luck. The printer would not print and even from your web browser base program connected to the printer "HP Color LaserJet M452dn NPI263760 192.168.0.8", navigating to reports and picking any of the reports, the printer would not print but would give one of several error conditions. Several messages were 49 System Error.
I hooked the printer to my computer via usb cable and it functioned properly. End of story? NO. I wanted the printer on my network and did not want any computer to have to be on to use it from one of my work stations and thus I had purchased a "DN" model.
The error messages were somewhat random.
I finally checked the transmit rate on the printer network settings. It had "Automatic" selected that by reason should work, right? NO I changed it to Manual 100TX Full and the printer has worked ever since. I know customer support for a company like HP is terribly costly, however, as I told them they need to provide this information for post sale customers.
Again, thank you for your responses.
Stan R
PS: In all fairness to BrightHouse the printer port (192.168.0.8:xxxx ) was not closed as far as I can tell.

This causes me all sorts of headaches as a printer tech, because often I don't have full access to a customers network hardware. "Auto" will work in most situations, but depending on the network speed and hardware components within the network, sometimes it will not allow devices to commicate.
Here is a good explanation offered by Cisco that may offer some insight.
