Product: HP Deskjet 2540
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I used to have a program on my PC where i could scan a document in the printer from my pc and i could save it on my computer and control the scanner from the computer, rescan etc. But since upgrading to Windows 10 i have lost the software. I have looked on the official HP Software downloads, downloaded the latest software for this printer but no software for scanning.  I can scan manually at the printer itself but that is like photo-copying rather than getting the images on your computer so you can attach it to an email etc.

 

I managed to find the install disc but that doesn't seem to have the scanning software either.

 

Any ideas where i can download the software? i am sure it was HP software not 3rd party.

I don't understand why it is not on the disc or an option to install when installing the software for the printer itself.

Hi,

Thanks for using the HP Support Community.

Can you download and install the FULL featured printer software from HP for your operating system:
https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/hp-deskjet-2540-all-in-one-printer-series/5295960

Once you have downloaded and installed the FULL feature software, you will be able to print and scan.

Yeah that is the file i downloaded earlier today and installed, it said i already had 2 of the three already installed- Photo Creations. So i installed that as well to see if that had anything to do with scanning but doesn't. So that is a dead end.

 

From memory i think the program i am thinking of was something called like HP Suite or something, i am not entirely sure but it had a standalone launcher and desktop icon just for scanning. It has been ages since i used it in the past.

 

Is there any other scanner apps that work with a variety of HP one-in-all HP printers? or some kind of HP Studio or whatever that has a scanner app?

Hi, 

Can you try this standalone app:

 

HP Scan Extended

http://ftp.hp.com/pub/scanners/HPScanExt/HPScanExt.msi

Once it's downloaded and installed, go to Start > All Programs > HP > HP Scan Extended > Run "HP Scan Extended"
