First, go to hp.com/support > click on Drivers & Softwares > enter your printer's name & model > select your operating system - click on Next button > click on Driver - Product Installation Software > download the link that has Full Feature Sofware and Driver

Hi benno66,
You couldn't be more frustrated than I was, but I did eventually get the HP software to work 'almost' completely.
I had to find a file called /TEMP/ on my computer and delete all the contents; then reboot and then download and install the full HP Driver package.
In my case, it seemed like some corrupted HP files in /TEMP/ were preventing uncorrupted HP files from downloading.
Also, once the HP Driver package is fully installed, don't mess with the 'start-up' configuration to prevent any of the HP files from starting when you boot-up. They won't start automatically when you need them.
I haven't been using HP ink cartridges, so maybe this is why I still can't read ink levels. Desktop control of Scanning does work very well!
Good luck. Henry

@sonflower wrote:Hubby and I have almost the exact same HP laptops. For some reason when he called HP to download the software for Win 7 for our printer (J5780 model) the tech person did not install Solution Center. (My tech person did though)
So can someone point me to the link to download Solution Center?
Here is what his laptop does have:

See the posting from yoghurt18 to find the full driver download.
I think you need to uninstall the HP printer driver, Then reboot. Then use the 'Find Files' program to locate folder /TEMP/. Delete all the files that you can in this folder. Then reboot, again, and go to the location described by yoghurt18 and download the full driver package (make sure the download runs to completion).
Install the drivers and be patient while they install completely.
This is what I remember doing. The install process seemed to go on for a long time for my printer, so you may have to be extra patient.
Good luck. Henry
