LaserJet Pro 200 MFP M276nw
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

While setting up a “Scan to Network Folder Setup” for my printer scanner, I was sked to “enter your Windows user name and password to allow the printer to access the network folder.”

Later, I was told that “Your user name and password are stored, encrypted, in the printer memory.”

I never knew that I had Windows user name and password that was stored and encrypted in the printer memory.

I went into the printer’s HP Web services/Proxy Settings/Username/Password and created these, but they do not work. I have no idea how else to get these username and password.

Does anyone know how I can retrieve these? I have no idea what they are talking about or how to get them.

Thank you

I cannot comment on the use / addition of Windows password in Proxy settings.

The content in this Post may or may not be relevant -- I do not have a Laser printer; the scan-to-network folder setup may be completely different for your printer type.

Encrypted Windows Password in Printer:

This might be the network folder access password that allows you to Scan to Network Folder from the front panel on the printer.  If that is the case, you won't find the password sitting in EWS.  ???

Mount / Map the Network Folder to your computer -- when you do that, you may need to provide the access information (account and password) so you can map / see the folders and files on that Network device.

For example, if you have a NAS (Network-attached storage), the device has on it a primitive Operating System that allows you to manage the disks in the unit, set up and manage user accounts (where you can create folders and store your documents, photos, and other files), perform diagnostics on the device, update the firmware, and complete the setups necessary to add the device to your network.

The account and password you use on the File Server / NAS might be different from your Windows Password / account name.

Scan-to-Network folder using Printer Software

The program is perhaps asking for your account and the password you use to log in / access the data on your network file server (NAS).

If you have mapped the network folder to your computer, provided the mapping with your network folder account and password, AND told the mapping to "remember your credentials", you should not need to enter the network folder password each time you scan.

Is the map, configure user/password setup true for Scan-to-Network folder as used from the Front Panel of the printer?  Unknown.

Remember, too, that the folder on the Network device to which you wish to send / store data must be shared.  Sharing is set up / configured on the Network device (NAS).
