Very odd scanning problem, I'll try to explain it in detail.
1. If I put a page on the glass and scan it to my Mac using the printer front panel, it works just fine.
2. If I put a page in the ADF and scan it to my Mac using the printer front panel, it also works fine.
3. If I put a page on the glass and use either HP Scan or HP Easy Scan to initiate the scan from my Mac, it works, but there is a white space of about 1.5 inches added to the bottom of the scanned image.
4. If I put a page in the ADF and use either HP Scan or HP Easy Scan to initiate the scan from my Mac, it works, but there is a white space of about 3-4 inches added to the bottom of the scanned image.
Bottom line is I can use the scanner only if I initiate scanning from the printer front pane, not from my Mac. I've installed/uninstalled the driver for this printer about five times...it changes nothing.

Hello, @larrymcj – Hope you are well 🙂
Thank you for becoming an HP Forum member. It is a great location to get help from the community, get suggestions and find what has worked for others.
I understand you are having issues scanning from the MAC. I would suggest the following steps and check:
- Click the Apple menu icon, and then click “System Preferences”.
- Click “Printers and Scanner” / “Print and Scan” or “Print and Fax”.
- Right-click the blank space in the Printers list, and then click “Reset printing system”.
- Click “Reset” in the confirmation window.
- Enter an administrator username and password, and then click “OK”.
- Wait until the printing system is reset and no devices show in the Printers list
- Restart your computer and then go back to System preferences – Printers and scanners.
- Click the “Add button” (+).
- Find, and then select the name of your printer from the printer list, and then click “Add” to add your printer.
- Click “Print Using...”, and then select the name of your printer (By default “Airprint” would be selected)
- Now try installing the HP easy scan and try scanning. You can check the instructions here: http://hp.care/2c8ckuS
Please let me know if this resolves the issue, or if you require further assistance.
Cheers 🙂

I've already tried that several times. In fact, I've uninstall/reinstalled the drivers at least five times. Remember, scanning works just fine using the panel on the printer, but when a scan is initiated via HP Scan or HP Easy Scan, the same problem occurs...the white space at the bottom.

Hello @larrymcj,
Thanks for the reply.
Appreciate your efforts. I did some digging and found an Apple driver download available for this printer.
First, uninstall the old printer drivers.
Now go to http://hp.care/2flF56z and download and install the Apple drivers.
I think that should do the trick. Let me know!
Good luck 🙂

Unfortunately, that doesn't work, either as I tried it yesterday. In fact, after installing these drivers there were other problems so I completely uninstalled everything and went back to the old drivers on the HP site, which at least allow me to scan from the computer front panel.
IMHO, the problem is HP's as they haven't updated the drivers for this printer since 2014. The printer worked just perfectly under the previous version of macOS El Capitan, but the minute I upgraded to macOS Sierra, the problems began. I think that also points toward incorrect drivers for macOS Sierra. Not sure who to really blame, but it's the customer who suffers.
Also, FWIW I looked at several other printers (different manufacturers) and every single one of them had drivers for the latest version of macOS Sierra and the posting date on their site was late 2016.

Hello @larrymcj,
Thanks for the reply.
But unfortunately, that's all I have got. I would suggest you call HP Phone support and speak to a MAC technician for any further troubleshooting steps.
You can visit http://www.support.hp.com/contact-hp and fill in your product details to get the tech support number.
(1) Once the support page opens please select the country in which you're located. Next, enter your HP model number on the right.
(2) Next, choose the 'Contact Support' tab at the top and scroll down to the bottom of the 'HP Support- Contact' page to fill out the form provided with your contact information.
(3) Once completed click the 'Show Options' icon on the bottom right.
(4) Lastly, scroll down to the bottom of the page and select 'Get phone number.' A case number and phone number will now populate for you.
If you have any troubles, let me know and I will do my best to help.
Thank you!
