ENVY 7640

For some reason I couldn't scan my social security card with HP ENVY 7640 All-in-one scaner. The scanner result is always incomplete.

Is there any reason HP doesn't allow social security card scan?

Welcome to HP Support Forums. 🙂 I came across your post and understand that you have an HP ENVY 7640 e-All-in-One Printer and it is unable to scan your social security card. I'd like to help you with this case.

The printer is not capable of detecting and preventing a scan of a social security card. I suggest you to check if the printer is able to scan or copy any other document. Also, try to make a copy of your social security card.

Note: Social security card must be placed on the scanner glass bed and not in the document feeder while scanning or making a copy.

If the printer is not successful to scan another document or is unsuccessful to make a copy of your social security card then please perform a hard reset on the printer:

  • Disconnect the power cable from the printer while the printer is still ON.
  • Disconnect any other cables if connected the printer.
  • Press and hold the printer’s power button for 15 seconds.
  • The printer should be directly connected to the wall outlet and not to a surge protector. Reconnect the power cable to print and the printer should power ON by itself. If the printer doesn’t power ON then please manually power it ON.

Feel free to let me know the outcome. I'm always here to support. Cheers! 🙂
