HP ENVY 5530
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I was printing blackboard documents when my HP ENVY started printing symbols on top of the words. I can barely read the information because of the symbols.

I always print all my documents via wireless.

From what I can tell from a quick Google search on the subject, it is likely the fonts in the blackboard screen / document are not compatible with the printer fonts and / or the fonts are not translating into Word (if you are using copy / paste of the content of the web screen into a Word document).

There is a lot of information in the Internet explaining how to print in Blackboard -- much of what you need to do to fix the font / character problem is likely dependent on what program / process you are using to create the print job

For example using "copy / paste" as opposed to using Insert to place data into a Word document might result in odd font characteristics and / or images that do not "keep their shape".

If you are printing directly from a browser, try a different browser and / or adjust the browser options to control the selection and use of fonts.

Example Firefox > Options > Content > Fonts and Colors > Advanced > UNCHECK Allow pages to choose their own fonts, instead of my selections above

If all else fails and you need only a "paper" copy of the content, create a Snip of the screen, save the file as an image (.jpg), print that.

I suggest the printer itself is not at fault in that the printer cannot translate something it cannot understand.  If you can convert the data (text / images) into a format the printer can handle, it will print the content.
