Will my Envy 4500 print 4 x 6 post cards?  I have inserted them just as I would an envelope, but the printer tells me it's "out of paper."  I have adjusted it the same as I would for an envelope.

Hello drewcrew,
Welcome to the HP Forums.

According to the specifications page for you Envy 4500, the printer can print on 4x6 index cards at a max of 110lb and no more then 20 in the tray. Here is a like to the page for reference: HP ENVY 4500 e-All-in-One and HP Deskjet Ink Advantage 3540 e-All-in-One Printer Series Printer Spe...

Here is also a document for loading specialty papers: Loading Plain Paper, Photo Paper, and Envelopes.

With you getting an out of paper message, that generally indicates the printers trying to print to the paper. Meaning nothing is wrong with it accepting the paper. But it may not be able to pull the paper, or the settings may be off. Usually if it's the setting you will get a "paper mismatch" error instead though.

What you can do, is lightly "roll" the paper to break the crisp backing a little so it can be picked up and move through the printer. (no need to fold or crease it). Also, try only a few sheets 1-5 at a time. The thicker paper will have a harder time being picked up by the rollers.
In some cases I have also seen "roughing" up the rollers work. A brand new printer has had no usage yet. So the rollers might "slick" still which makes them slip on heavier papers or glossy papers. It's an odd thing, but like I've said has worked.

Try the above and let me know how you make out. Thank you for posting on the HP Forums.

Thanks! Another expert had already responded and you're both correct. I guess my biggest problem is my new printer didn't have a manual in it and the pdf manual online was difficult to navigate.
