I'm currently using HP's version 13.0 32-bit driver/software package for my OfficeJet Pro 8500 All-in-One unit, connected to my Dell Precision 390 workstation running Windows 7 Pro 64-bit, via a direct USB connection. My HP 8500 unit works fine with this setup, but I see on my HP 8500 product support page that you now have an updated 64-bit driver/software package (version 14.0) available for my Windows 7 64-bit computer, as well as a firmware update for my HP 8500.
Question: Would I get better performance by installing the updated Windows 7 64-bit driver/software package? And if so, should I completely uninstall my version13.0 32-bit driver/software in the Windows 7 Add/Remove Programs list(there are several components listed), before downloading and installing the version14.0 64-bit driver/software package?
Also, I assume that I should download and install the most recent firmware update BEFORE installing the Version 14.0 64-bit driver/software update - is that correct?
Most of the software and drivers on my computer is/are now 64-bit, so I'd like to install the 64-bit version of the HP driver/software package, unless you recommend against it for some reason.
Thank-you for any advice!

Hi jgraback,
1. I have used the Officejet 8600 installed on a desktop computer running Windows 7 with version 14.0
2. Answer: software versions 13.0 and 14.0 have the same functionality as far as I know.
3. About the firmware, is Ok to install the recent firmware before install Version 14, if you decide to do it.
In my humble opinion, If it ain't broke, is not necessary to fix it 🙂

Thanks, ferRX! There is wisdom in your last comment... but I may try installing the 64-bit, version 14.0 driver upgrade (and the HP 8500 firmware update, which includes some needed performance improvements) anyway. I'll set a Restore Point in Win 7 first (I know that a "Restore" won't revert the HP firmware update, though).
I would still like to know whether I should uninstall the 32-bit, Version 13.0 driver software first. Anyone got an answer to that?
Jon
