I have just upgraded to Windows 10 and now cannot scan from my deskjet 2540. With Windows 8, I could search for printers, double click on my printer icon and then click on "scan". Now I cannot repeat this process.
Any help would be very welcome.

Hi,
Thanks for using the HP Forums.
Can you download and install the FULL feature printer software from HP for your operating system:
The following resource will help you :
HP Printer Install Wizard for Windows
http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software13/COL50403/mp-150580-2/hppiw.exe
Once you have downloaded and installed the FULL feature software, you will be able to print and scan.
Hope that helps.

Thank you for the advice.
I clicked on the link and it said "the current full HP software is already installed and drivers appear to be installed correctly".
I clicked on "test" and this said things looked ok but if there was a problem to download "Print and Scan Doctor". I had already tried to download that, but it would not complete.
If I assume that the software is ok, I am still left with the problem of not knowing what to do to actually scan a document.
With Windows 8, I had a clear sequence of actions that started with"Search" and finished up with a Scan Assistant [?] that even a technologically challenged person like me could follow.
But now clicking on "Search" does not seem to lead to "scan". Is this a Microsoft problem?
I find it astonishing - or maybe I should not be so surprised - that HP and/or Microsoft do not seem to have anticipated this problem. I gather that I am not alone.
Any futher guidance would be much appreciated.

Hi,
Can you this this alternative Software?
HP Scan Extended
ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/scanners/HPScanExt/HPScanExt.msi
Once it's downloaded and installed, go to Start > All Programs > HP > HP Scan Extended > Run "HP Scan Extended"
Let us know if that works.

Product Name: HP Officejet 9110 All in one printer
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)
HELLO, I, a retired fellow, NEED ALL THE HELP.
I saw your suggested HPScanExtend.msi helped to solve the said printer for the fellow.
I wonder if it will solve a similar problem of my HP9110
Here is my case for your understanding and help
I had purchased a new Dell XPS computer with Windows 10. When the 9110 was connected , the printing works
and printer properties and preference all functions.
However, scanner is not recognized. Using HP Scan & Capture , Windows Paint does not detect the scanner
I have downloaded HP Print & Scan Doctor, when i run the diagnosis,
it pointed back to the HP Software &Driver download site, where
it showed the best updated driver is provided through the Windows Built-in drivers, which was installed.
On the Devices & Printers folder, when i right click the 9110 printer and looked into the properties of
Hp office jet 9110 series , the Device Status shows the device is working properly,
and open the Driver tabs, and open the driver details :
a list of 6 drivers are :
C:\Windows\System32\difxpai.dll
C:\Windows\System32\drivers\Dot4.sys
C:\Windows\System32\drivers\Dot4Scan.sys
C:\Windows\System32\drivers\Dot4usb.sys
C:\Windows\System32\hppldcoi.dll
C:\Windows\System32\PortChanger.exe
these files are present in the folder as indicated above.
- on Windows Device Manager, there is a question mark on Other Device.
, when i looked into Printers, open up the Devices & Printers, right click and access the
Properties - Hardware tab, I can see :
Device Functions : Type
hp office jet 9110 series Universal Series Bus Controller
hp office jet 9110 series PCL5 printer
hp office jet 9110 series PCL5 printer queues
hp office jet 9110 series IEEE1284.4 compatible printer
hp scan device Other device
the symbol in front of the hp scan device has a question mark ?
When i right click on this hp scan device, and click properties, it shows :
General tab: Device Status :This device is working properly.
Driver tab: Provider unknown, driver date, version are all unavailable
In the General tab, when i clicked the Change Settings, I can access the Upadate Driver button,
Choosing the online search returned Windows cannot find driver software for this device
Choosing from the computer's windows/system32 folder and subfolder also yield no result .
When I looked into the computer's Programs folder and Program (x86) folder , there is
a HP folder which only holds the HP Print & Scan Doctor application I downloaded.
There is absolutely nothing.
I go back to the HP starter disk when i bought the printer 9110, and it does not
load and keep saying it only works for Internet Explorer newer than IE 5.
I supposed that was the version then . But this Dell computer has IE 11.
Talking to Dell does not help either, the guy tells me to go to HP for help.
Really appreicate your experience and intelligent solution,
have a great day,
al

Hi @PLSHELPAL,
Thanks for using the HP Forums.
There's no harm trying if the HP Scan Extended will resolve your problem.
HP Scan Extended
ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/scanners/HPScanExt/HPScanExt.msi
Once it's downloaded and installed, go to Start > All Programs > HP > HP Scan Extended > Run "HP Scan Extended"
Let us know if that works.
Else, the other solution that we can offer is to try using the HP Scan and Capture apps in HP AIO Remote?
HP AiO Remote apps
Follow these steps to get the apps (if it's not already installed) :
1. Go to Windows Store
2. Search for "HP AiO Remote" apps
3. Install the apps.
4. The apps should detect your wireless printer, under the apps, there is a "Scan" function.
5. Click on the Scan and it will direct you to download the "Scan and Capture" apps.
6. After installing, you should be able to Scan.
This resource will show you how it's done:
Windows 10 : Downloading and Installing the HP AiO Remote & HP Scan & Capture Apps
Hope that helps.

Appreciate your support and the .msi file.
I downloaded it and run it.
Instantly it says,
then I tried to run this HP Scan & Capture first and then the the Scan Extended ,
same result of not finding the scanner.
About using HP AiO Remote apps, I have the limitatation that the HP 9110 is only a wireline USB device
and not a wireless enabled printer-scanner.
Appreciate other thoughts.
