LJ 400 M401dn
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

When I go to print, I get a print error about not being able to print to queue if online.  I have downloaded all-in-one and attempted to install it as a fix after uninstalling the printer.  After 99% setup it time out fails.

I have attempted to install through Windows Update.  This installed a LJ 400 M401 which it lists as a Color LaserJet.

A couple of days ago I was able to print and am not sure what changed.

Dose anyone have an idea about what is going on and a fix.

Windows 10 64-bit, LaserJet M401 dn.

I found the solution and it lies with peculiarities of Windows 10.  In previous versions of Windows, when originally setting up, you set up as an Administrator and the created Users.  In 10, you set up as users and though the user may have Administrator rights, they really aren't a full-blownAdministrator.  So, when my installation was blocked by the Administrator, I was curious.

You need to activate the hided Administrator account, log in as the "real" Administrator, and then do the installation form there.

Good Luck all.

@HairOut

Try running this.

HP Printer Install Wizard for Windows

http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software13/COL50403/mp-150580-2/hppiw.exe

Then this.

HP Print and Scan Doctor

Thanks for the suggestions.  I had already done everything you suggested but try a new USB cable.  I have now tried a new cable and still get the message that the computer can't communicate with the printer.   And Windows 10 security will not let me run smart install, even though I am the administrator.

Further suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Further information may help?

When I download and run the Completion Solution Set for LaserJet 400 M401, the "installation" starts, gets to the Connect the Product stage, indicates Product has been Detected, waiting for setup to finish this may take several minutes.  It then gets to 99% and indicates "An install operationtook too long.  This is a fatal error preventing product use.  Please restart and run again...."

I've done that and get the exact same result.

Still pulling my hair out.
