Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

On Windows 10, my HP 6500A-E710n-z  will not default to black and white printing.   The print dialog always comes up as COLOR=color and not COLOR=monochrome.     I have set my printer preferences to "print in grayscale"=Black Ink only   and also tried "print in grayscale"=high quality grayscale.   I do click 'apply' button and have also restarted the laptop just to be safe.  How do I fix this?   I print daily in b+w and use color about 4 times a year so default to b+w would really save time.

Hi jc-888,

Go to Printing with Black Ink Only (Windows) for steps to set the default print settings to print only in black.

Let me know if that helps!

Hello there,

Have you tried setting printing defaults through the printer properties in the Control Panel?

Search Windows for 'printers', then click Devices and Printers in the search results.

Right-click the icon for your printer, click Printer Properties, click the Advanced tab, then click Printing Defaults down in the bottom left corner. Change your settings and click OK. See if that makes your preferences stick.

I am using an HP2540 printer connected via Wireless.   After upgrading from Win7 to Win10, I could change to printing Black Only with the normal procedure but the printer would not default to that setting and defaulted back to color printing.    I saw something that said the latest HP software must be installed.  So I went to the HP site, and let the HP downloader download and install it.   I then let it install my printer again even though it was already installed.   After that it let me default the printer to Black Only.   And my second Win10 computer which is connected to the same printer could then change the setting to Black Only and the default remained that even though I did not install new software on that computer.
