Hi ,
I managed to make the scanner work in WIA . Go to this topic and read tricks and solutions :http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Operating-systems-and-software/Vista-compatable-driver-for-HP-scanjet-4...

Have Win XP install disk ? You can download VMware Player http://www.vmware.com/products/player/
and install virtual Windows XP on your W 7 HDD . Easy and harmless to your basic OS ( Vista / Win 7 ) . Worked fine for me anyway .

I have to reinstall my 4470c Scanner due to a hard disk crash, I was able to download the driver and software only to have it fail to run because disk C is no longer my master drive and it cannot install on any other machine drive. This is obviously a major problem. I desperately need this scanner and I simply do not understand why this software will only work on one machine drive, especially one tthat I no longer have. Please advise whether anyone else has had this issue and how you were able to fix it. I have tried to contact HP in Australia almost a week ago and was told to send an email to the US which has not been answered. I need help with this.
Thank you

Hi Kevin ,
Not sure this is the good solution but it seems PrecisionScan Pro needs to recognize the master drive under letter C . Have you tried to modify the drives letters in order to run your scanner ? If the master drive no more runs under letter C , this could be the cause of your issue .

Here's my not-too-bad experience, just to share and encourage people with similar problems.
I got my good old scanjet 4470c to work with Precisionscan Pro 3.14 on Windows 7 Home Premium
I installed the Dutch XP drivers (precision scan pro 3.14).
I did it as follows:
1. unplug the USB cable from the scanjet
2. plug in the power cable of the scanjet
3. download the Windows XP drivers for the 4470c, save the .exe (sj659du.exe 66 MB) to a local folder
4. open the local folder, right click on the .exe and click 'Run as administrator'
5. I deselected the share-with-the-web functions, but left precisionscan pro and the copy tool selected
6. finish installation by clicking OK lots of times, close the installation program
7. now plug in the USB cable. Windows 7 recognized the scanjet and mentioned that is was installed.
8. start Precision Scan pro
9. click No after active-x scripting returns some errors.
10. just start scanning and saving, it works.
The thing that I can't get to work is the front panel buttons. But I remember having problems with that in xp as well.
Hope this is of help to somebody.

Hi Koogitaar ,
Well , it didn't for me ! After a few successful scans , the program jammed as it already did with the previous methods . Guess you are amoung the lucky ones with PrecisionScan Pro .
Thanks for the tip , anyway .
I' m back to WIA . Works fine for me .
In case I need to scan slides , I use Xp on a second intern HDD while the primary HDD is running under Windows 7 Ultimate 32 bits .

Hi all ,
This concerns the owners of the Windows XP , Ubuntu , Hrel install disc ( 32 or 64 bits ) :
About " The Microsoft Virtual PC software (free for Windows-7 Professional and up users)" previously posted in this topic : Not all processors support virtualisation and I' m not sure this also works under Windows 7 Home 64 or 32 bits but maybe well.
Nevertheless ( this is no spam ) , there is an excellent and easy to install tool that perfectly does it's job under all versions of Windows 7 and has other extended functions if ever needed . Go to http://www.vmware.com/products/player/ and install VMWare Player . The test I did with Windows 7 install disc was convincing .
By the way : it' s free
