Hi,

I recently purchased a new Billion 7800NXL router which has an inbuilt print server which allows you to connect the printer to the router over a USB connection so that it acts as a print server. I followed the manufacturers user guide on setting up the wireless print server and have installed the latest drivers for my HP LaserJet P1005 Printer. The computer can establish contact with the printer via the router as it recognises when the printer has been disconnected. On further inspection using Wireshark, the computer exchanges information with the router using the Internet Printing Protocol through port 631. When I go to print something for example through Microsoft Word, it gives me the option to print to the HP LaserJet P1005 Printer but then in the printer spool it says 0 documents pending and nothing prints out. I have disabled all firewalls and anti virus software and am running Windows 7 64 bit. Any ideas ?

Hi,

The HP printer has been designed for USB printing, any 3rd party hardware as the print server usage is depands on that hardware capabilities.

I would suggest trying updating its firmware (version 2.32a) which list the following bug fix, that may be related to your issue:

Some HP printers were misidentified as the 3G/LTE dongles

 http://au.billion.com/products/wireless/bipac7800nxl.html

Additionally from my experience, many print servers only support PCL based printers and not Host-Based printers as the P1005 (the printing language used by the printer).

I could not locate any information on the 7800NXL user guide regarding this matter, that is something I would recommend verifying with the router's manufacturer.

Hope that may help,

Shlomi

Thanks for the quick reply.

I was actually just reading an article on host based printing and its incompatability with print servers so I am inclined to believe that is the problem. Ah well you cant win them all

Cheers
