When I had Verizon and the "new" J4680 printer, it was connected to my wireless network and it worked for 6 years.

I changed ISPs to Comcast.  I used the disk version of my installer and downloaded the installer from the support site.

With each of those two attempts the installer says it cannot connect, because there is no wireless device to choose.  I even tried the IP address of the router to connect as this is an option on the window that tells me there is no wireless  device to choose.  Still no success, the software tells me it does not recognize the IP address.

How can this be?  I have a MacBook with Mac OS X, Version 10.5.8 and with Verizon this connected to the wireless network and I could print.

Help, please.

Thanks,

CirrusClous

Hey Chris,

In this case with the document not printing please try following this document: Print Jobs are Stuck in the Print Queue.
It has instructions for your Mac 10.5, on clearing the print queue. Just want to make sure this isn't the cause of the job not going through.

Thanks for your post, let me know how things go.

Hello, CirrusCloud.
Welcome to the HP Forums.

I understand that since changing ISP's, you are having issues getting your printer working correctly again over the network.
Please goto this page Wireless printing center, and choose the drop down for "Your printer was working over the network before, and now isn't."
Follow each step, they should help you out. Let me know how things go.

Thanks.

Futoji (Tutor).

Thanks for your email + response.  There is more to this than meets the eye.

I followed the steps as you directed under the "Your printer was working over the network before, and now isn't." heading.

When I checked the printer and looked to follow the steps to determine connection to the router I was able to move a few steps closer.  The printer saw the router and displayed the name, but then asked for the WPA passphrase.  Wasn't sure what that was, tried to enter the WEP number for the router, also tried entering the Comcast number for my email.  Neither worked because each has numbers which, although the printer keypad has numbers, except for the zero and one keys, no other keys will print a number.

Then I tried just some random passphrase but that did not work.

If cirrus clouds could rain, I would be crying as

If you have any other solutions, I'd be happy to try again.  THANKS!

Hey,

Its good to hear you've been able to get further ahead.

In regards to where the printer is asking for a WPA passphrase. This is the password or phrase for your Comcast network. It would have been provided to you by Comcast. If your unsure of what this is, it would be best to contact them to verify.

Also, when entering the passphrase on your printer you will have to touch a button repeatedly to get numbers to appear, the same for capitals. (Example:  to get the number two, you would need to press the key with 2,a,b,c on it until the desired character appears on the screen.)

Hope this was helpful.

Thanks for your reply.

Futoji,

Thanks very much for your last message on the keypad of the printer.  I successfully enter the WAP passcode and the printer said it was connected.  I was elated.  I went to test the printer through the computer.

Says it is opening printer connection but then the printer is paused.

In Sys Preferences, I chose Print & Fax.  I had removed the Printer, had an empty list, restarted the computer.

Added HP Officejet J4680, checked the box to share the printer, the location info is Kind:  HP Officejet J4680 Series,

Status:  unfortunately reads, Paused, Default

I changed Default Printer:  to HP Officejet J4680, but still doesn't connect and send the doc to the printer.

Any ideas?

Again thanks very much for your patience.

Chris
