I have always supported HP as a customer due to my belief of products should last a significant amount of time while be efficient. Unfortunately recently my lightly used C309g is having a serious issue.

As a college student I need a reliable printer and when powered on my c309g indicates "Improper Shutdown" followed by the message "to avoid damage shutdown properly.." then shortly after a new message shows "Paper Jam"... I am technically inclined and can only assume the printer was not shutdown properly. I even tried to “perform a power reset” as directed in the video but no help. I am confident there is no jams while know to a degree what the issue is.

The carriage is restrained in the default location due to the mechanism directly under the carriage that holds ink sponges. The mechanism is failing to remove itself from the carriage and withdraw towards the back of the printer when powered on. Is there a way to have the mechanism release the carriage?! This is unreasonable that such an anomaly can occur for my printer being lightly used and cared for greatly.

Btw the process to “perform a power reset” is ironic as it seems to support an “improper shutdown”.

Furthermore any feedback would be greatly appreciated!!

Hi VVitale 31,

I understand that you are getting a carriage jam error. Follow the steps in this document for 'Carriage jam' or '0X610000F6' Error Message Displays on the Control Panel. When checking for paper jams check for any debris or broken pieces that could be wedged under the printhead causing a jam.

I hope this helps, let me know.

Thank you,

The carriage is stuck on the right side and will not move no matter what I try. I have tried the recommended document several times and did not find any paper in the printer anywhere and none of the other recommendations have worked. The carriage will just not move. When I remove the power cord the carriage will still not move and it is stuck to the right.

I thought I was descriptive but the only thing restricting the carriage is the underneath mechanism! The carriage tries to move every time I turn on the device but it cannot due to the mechanism below!

How can I remove the below part manually?

Notice how when the printer is off the carriage cannot move. Well the mechanism underneath the carriage is raised. Well when the printer is powered on the carriage is supposed to lower and release the carriage.

That is the exact problem I am having. There is no paper jammed anywhere and the carriage is not stuck because of debris the carriage is just locked into place as described.

Hi Jerrygo and VVitale31,

I am sorry that document did not help resolve the issue. I suggest we try a partial reset on the printer and if this does not work then we can try a semi-full reset. When you do a reset it will require a new ePrint address.

I will private message each of you the information to reset the printer.
