I can print from my IPAD but not from my PC to my HP ENVY 4500. I have tried to download the latest SCAN DOCTOR but when I try to install it I get an error message. " INSTALLATION ERROR ERROR 5: FAILED TO COPY PORT MONITOR FILES."
I have downloaded the most recent driver downloads for this printer. Previously when I tried to print I would get a message saying the printer was offline. Now if I try to print I don't get any messages. It just doesn't print.
The printer is online. My IPAD can print to it. I have used the wireless wizard to enter the WPA/WEP password. I have been doing this all day long and am very frustrated. Can someone help me get back to printing?
Thanks,
REDBIRD1

Welcome to the HP Forums!
I understand you are unable to print from your PC, though it works fine on an iPad,
I'll be glad to help you out, however, for an accurate solution I will need more details:
What is the product number of your computer? is that an HP product? Use this link to find it: http://support.hp.com/rs-en/document/c03754824
(Do not share any personal information such as serial number, email ID, phone number or address on a public forum for your safety).
Have you attempted any steps on your own before posting on the HP Forums?
Which operating system are you using?
Did you also upgrade the firmware of the printer along with the printer drivers for the computer? if not please do.
Please reply with the details for further assistance.
Eager to help!
Feel free to post your query for any other assistance as well,
It's been a pleasure interacting with you and I hope you have a good day ahead.
If you wish to show appreciation for my efforts, mark my post as Accepted Solution.
And click on the Purple Thumbs up icon at the bottom of my comment.

I have a Dell all in one PC. Hot an HP PC. It came with Windows 8.1 but a year or so ago I downloaded Windows 10. I have a cd to put in a dvd/cd drive though it says it's for versions up to 8.1. Not sure reinstalling the printer will work from this cd.
I did try to download and install the latest software and drivers for my HP Envy 4500. The download was successful but when I try to install it goes through the process till it asks to install 3 different programs. Then I get a fail message;
INSTALLATION ERROR
ERROR 5: FAILED TO COPY PORT MONITOR FILES.
I recently tried to use a new Belkin router and when I had trouble with it I went back to my NETGEAR17 router. I did the Wireless Wizard setup on my printer with the SSID and password (keycode) for the Netgear router. Now it prints from the IPAD but not the Dell PC. Obviously the IPAD and Dell have different operating systems. Yet the IPAD prints and the PC does not. When I click on the button to uset he toubleshooter it does not find a slolution.
I also noticed this morning that the speaker or microphone for my Cortana is not working on the PC.
Thanks for your help,
Redbird1

You've done a remarkable job collating all the answers to my earlier queries, great work 🙂
And don't worry, as we should be able to fix this up with a few more steps and I'll be with you until we ensure this issue is fixed.
I understand you've been able to print via iPad but not through the notebook, this seems to be a driver issue with windows since it's working fine with the iPad,
I recommend you do a root level reinstallation of drivers, follow the steps below:
1.) In Windows, search for and open Programs and features
2.) Select your HP Printer
3.) Select Uninstall
4.) In Windows, search for and open Devices and printers
5.) In the Devices and Printers windows look for your HP printer. If you see it listed right-click on it and choose 'Delete' or 'Remove Device'
6.) Open up the run command with the "Windows key + R" key combo.
7.) Type printui.exe /s and click Ok. (Note: there is a space in between "printui.exe" and "/s")
8.) Click on the "Drivers" tab
9.) Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it Click on it and click Remove at the bottom
10.) Select Ok
11.) Select Apply and Ok on the Print Server Properties windows
12.) Close Devices and Printers

Thank you for replying,
I recommend you restart the computer into an administrator account and then retry the same steps,
Once done it should resolve the issue if it still doesn't work,
Try using the windows built-in drivers to use your printer: Click here for more details.
