I have a  C3180  printer, and the cartridge is only currently moving from the far left to about 1/4 of the way to the right. When I try to print I get an error message that says "Mechanism Error: The print cartridge cradle cannot move. Turn the printer off, free the cartridge cradle, and turn the printer back on." I have attempted to do this, but have been unable to "free the cartridge cradle", and I don't see anything physically blocking it's movement.

@rhs619,

Welcome to HP Forums, this is a great place to get support, find answers and tips.

Thank you for posting your query, I'll be more than glad to help you.

I understand that you are facing carriage jam issues with your HP Photosmart C3180 All-in-One Printer wherein the carriage does not move and you get an error message "Mechanism Error: The print cartridge cradle cannot move. Turn the printer off, free the cartridge cradle, and turn the printer back on."

This issue could be a hardware issue with the carriage mechanism in the printer.

Let's go through a few steps to troubleshoot this issue.

And here's the step by step guide for you in the link: Carriage Jam

Let us know if there was a paper jam in the unit before.

Also, let us know if you recently replaced any cartridges.

If the issue still persists, then you may need to contact phone support for further assistance at the link: www.hp.com/contacthp

Keep me posted 🙂

You have a good day ahead.
