My modem was working perfectly with my 7410 printer, but a Verizon problem required me to reset the modem to the factory preset. I need to switch from WEP to WPA encryption.   My problem is that when I use the wireless wizard, it detects the correct SSID, but when I press OK it goes to the virtual keyboard and requests the WEP key.  The manual says to press 3 and it will select WPA encryption, but all I accomplish is the number three on the keyboard.  Can anyone help me?

Hello-

After you enter your SSID (network name) scroll over to "done" and then press OK.

Then you should be able to press 3 and enter WPA passphrase.

Thanks for the suggestion.  I tried entering the factory (default) SSID and scrolled to done, then OK and it immediately went to the virtual keyboard asking for the WEP key.  I hit 3, and the letter D showed up.  I also tried entering the alternate SSID my Verizon phone guy set up (which worked perfectly until I had to reset the modem) and then the password key.  It tried to connect but failed.  Any other ideas...I'm about at wits end.

Donald, thanks for the help.  It occurred to me when I replied initially that Duke (the Verizon guy) changed the SSID and WPA key from computer to the modem/router.  I went into the settings on the modem and changed them and now it seems every things OK

Sorry, but I have the same problem, but my network appears on the list.  I can't change it to WEP and my printer insists on haveing a WEP password.  I don't get the opportunity to select WPA since the network already appears on the list.  (I tried entering it a second time)... so I don't get to make a choice of 1,2 or 3.

Can the printer be made to seek a WPA by default, rather than a WEP ?

HP Recommended

Try resetting the printer back to factory defaults and start all over.

Thanks for the prompt reply.  I did as you suggested, but the printer continues to find my active network.  When I select the network, it asks for a WEP password.  My router and entire network is definitely using WPA and cannot be changed.  I also tried adding a "new" SSID, but, of course that cannot be found.  I added the original SSID a second time, same result, it requires a WEP password.  Seems to me that the Default Reset is not working.  I turned the printer off and disconnected the power in an effort to restore the factory default.  Am I missing something ?  Otherwise I'll use this printer as a USB-connected printer until I can trade it in for a new (warranty covered) printer.

You are supposed to leave the printer on, pull the power cord for 5 mins and plug it back in.  Now try.

I tried to reset the printer by unplugging power, leaving it off for 5 minutes, then reconnecting and still am unable to change from WEP to WPA in order to add my password - help!!
