169.254.x.x means that the printer did not get a proper IP address issued from the router.
What router are you using?
First, try turning the printetr off then back on. Next, turn the router off then back on (pull the power plug out of the back).
Say thanks by clicking "Kudos" "thumbs up" in the post that helped you.

Hello sawhorse,
So I could assist you with this issue, would you be able to provide me with the operating system that you have running on your computer? Also, have you tried to power cycle your router to resolve this issue?
Thank you,

So, the other day I attempted to get the printer to find my phone. Searched the internet and concluded it needed the firmware updated. So I did that, I think. That is when the IP address changed.

Hello sawhorse,
The IP address that the printer has now is one that it assigned itself instead of coming from the router. I recommend following these steps the get the printer back onto your network:
Reset the printer:
- Turn the printer off.
-
Hold the (
) and the wireless button while turning the printer on until the printer makes a noise then let go of the buttons.
Print a configuration page:
-
Make sure that the Ready light (
) is on and that the product is idle and silent.
-
Press and hold the Cancel button (
), and release it when the Ready light (
) begins blinking.
-
Make sure that the IP address or IPv4 address on this printout shows " 0.0.0.0 "
- Start button.
- All Programs / Programs.
- HP.
- HP Laserjet Professional P1100 Series.
- Wireless Configuration.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to finish setting the printer back up on the network.
Check to see if the printer has the same IP address as before (if it does, you will be able to print from all of the computers).
Let me know if this resolves the issue.
Thank you,

Second problem. We have an HP Office jet 5510 all-in-one printer, copier, scanner and fax. We have had it for a gazillion years has always worked perfect and that's why we still have it. However, recently it will not receive a fax. It has always been set up through an answering machine and has worked perfect. Read through the trouble shooting section of the user manual and tried the suggestion. So I disconnected the answering machine and it will receive a fax. This indicated that the answering machine may be bad. Bought a new machine and set it up exactly as the old one was. It will not receive a fax. Disconnect the answering machine and things work fine. So, is it time to bury the 5510?
