officejet 7310 all in one
Mac OS X 10.11 El Capitan

My parents have given me their HP Officejet 7310.  They have an Imac although I'm not sure of the OS.   I believe it is at least a "9" and probably a "10".  I have OS 10.11.6.   I tried to use the installer disc but received the message "You can’t open the application “HP all-in-one Installer” because PowerPC applications are no longer supported."

Is this permenantly incompatible?

Hello, @flbs – Hope you are well 🙂

Welcome to the HP Forum! This is a wonderful location to converse with the community, get assistance and find tips!

I understand that you are having difficulties setting up the Officejet printer with your iMac. Since this is an older model printer, we do not have MAC 10.11 drivers available. I would suggest using the MAC built-in drivers as suggested below:

First, connect the printer to the network or connect to your MAC using the USB cable. Once done, follow the steps to reset the printing systems and to add the printer:

  • Click the Apple menu icon, and then click “System Preferences”.
  • Click “Printers and Scanner” / “Print and Scan” or “Print and Fax”.
  • Right-click the blank space in the Printers list, and then click “Reset printing system”.
  • Click “Reset” in the confirmation window.
  • Enter an administrator username and password, and then click “OK”.
  • Wait until the printing system is reset and no devices show in the Printers list
  • Restart your computer and then go back to System preferences – Printers and scanners.
  • Click the “Add button” (+).
  • Find, and then select the name of your printer from the printer list, and then click “Add” to add your printer.
  • Click “Print Using...”, and then select the name of your printer (By default “Airprint” would be selected)

Please let me know if this resolves the issue, or if you require further assistance.

Good luck 🙂

Quite a delay on my part to give your response a try, but I can't even seem to load the startup disc on my computer.  Should I follow the steps you have suggested before doing this or is there a different problem to be concerned with?

Hi! @flbs, I am the MrRobot. It looks like you were interacting with @Dvortex, but he is out of the office today so I'll take over from here.

Thanks for your generous response and time.

Please download and install HP Printer Drivers v5.0 directly from apple website and check if it helps.

Link to update printer drivers.

Also, try the steps recommended in the previous thread by my colleague before updating the printer drivers.

Let me know how it goes!

Cheers! 🙂
