My copies come out with a thin black line running lengthwise along the paper.  Can this be fixed or do I have to toss out another HP printer?  Any help would be appreciated.  Thank you.

your printer is probably fine, you probably just have a mark on your ADF glass-

open your scanner and clean the 1/2 wide strip of glass- you can usually lay your copy face up on the big glass and that will give you a reference point where the mark is

run a blank sheet of paper through the ADF and make a copy- When the cop comes out, it will have the line on it. Open up the top of the printer and lay the print out on the large glass face up. If you look on the left side you will see a thinner pice of glass. This is where the printer scans the documents run through the ADF- the line on the printed page should line up with a mark on the thin glass. Usually ink or correction tape- can be hard to see, sometimes a flashlight will help. You can usually scrape this ink build up off with your fingernail, or just use a clean dry cloth, or a dab of glass cleaner.

Problem solved.  Thank you so much.  I had checked and wiped the glass but apparently not well enough.  Glass cleaner did the trick!
