I am so frustrated with HP.  I have an ENVY 7640 and I have just bought an ENVY 4520 for my wife.  Both default to double side printing.  Neither of us want this but there seems no simple way of turning this OFF permanently and HP gives NO instructions how to do this.

This is such a basic functionality, I can't believe HP hasn't built an on/off switch into the machine to allow a user to easily set this!

Can someone help as if not I'll trash both and buy two from a competing brand!

Open the file you would like to print. From the File menu select Print. The Print window appears.

NOTE: The Print window might be minimized. Click the Show Details button to see all available settings.

Click the settings drop down, it will usually appear as the name of the program (e.g. TextEdit)
Will appear as Copies & Pages within Microsoft Office applications.

Select Layout from the drop-down menu.

Set the Two-Sided option as Off.

You may save the settings as a preset by clicking Presets > Save Current Settings as Preset...

By doing so and completing the print job these settings will remain default till another preset will be used in the future.

Thanks for the help.  But this is NOT intuitive and NOT easy to do.

Hope HP reads this, as I see this as a MAJOR fault with their printers.

this should be a similar way to do it, just change the 2 sided option off
