I have a new HP Officejet Pro 8620. The best dpi setting I can get when scanning is 300 dpi. For some documents I need 600 but this does not show up as an option, even though the spec sheet shows that up to 1200 is available. Does anyone know how to get to the higher resolutions? I use Windows 7 and normally select PDF for my scan files. Every other HP printer I've owned made it simple to change the dpi but this one has me perplexed. Thanks.

Hello Saipan,

Welcome to the HP Forums!

I understand you're unable to select dpi setting higher than 300 when scanning a document. I will do my best to assist you! Yes this is correct, this printer does support resolution to 1200 using the HP software. How is this printer connected? Wireless or USB?

I would recommend uninstalling the software since you don't have this option. Please follow this HP document on Uninstalling the Printer Software. Now, I would like you to clean out theTemp folder on your computer by following this document here.

Next, please perform a clean boot on your computer by following this Microsoft document here. This helps eliminate software conflicts that occur when you install a program or an update or when you run a program.

Once this is complete, use the Printer Install Wizard to install which will install the appropriate software on your computer.

Please post your results, as I will be looking forward to hearing from you. Have a great night! Smiley Happy

Hello. Tried all your suggestions but to no avail. Found out from several sources that 300 dpi is highest resolution available using auto document feed. To get higher dpi, you need to individually place documents on the glass and scan one at a time. This is extremely inefficient. The 8620 advertising brochure and even the user manual certainly lead you to believe that higher scanning dpi settings are available for all scanning methods. Not so. I'm quite disappointed with HP.

I opened HP Scan in my computer's start menu. The option to use the document feeder was selected (which has a max of 300 dpi). I saw that I could select "Always Scan From Glass" from the drop down menu and ran a test scan. Worked fine.  Used the touch screen, and items placed on the glass are now scanning at 600 dpi. (Haven't tried the doc feeder, but I'm not interested in that at this point.)
