Did you note the ink running out from the printout being faded or from a warning on the computer or front panel? If the printout appeared faded did this correspond to low ink on the front panel, or does the printer still indicate plenty of ink?
An HP 61xl cartridge is rated for 480 standard pages, if you are using draft mode I would expect nearly twice that. There are a number of things that can use extra ink:
- Running cleaning cycles from the front panel or computer toolbox can use significant amount of ink. Cleaning cycles are rarely needed and should be avoided.
- Is the printer connected to a live outlet? If an external power switch, such as an outlet switch or power strip switch is used to turn off the printer it will use more ink at startup. The printer should always be plugged into a live outlet.
