DesignJet 500
Microsoft Windows 7 (32-bit)

I have a 42" DesignJet 500 with a jetdirect card.  Recently it has been periodically giving me an error 63:03 during printing.  Today it stop communicating with the server entirely for a while.  I upgraded the firmware ont e plotter via a usb connection to a desktop and it seemed to be working fine.  Then 3 plots in the 63:03 error appears again.

Could it be the jetdirect card is going bad?  or something else?  I can get a new card pretty easily, but I hate to go through the effort if it isn't likely to solve the problem.

Thank you

System error 63:03

Explanation

LAN card communication problem.

Recommended action

Follow the instructions below to help solve the issue:
  1. Turn the printer off and allow a few minutes for printer to cool.

  2. Turn on the printer, following initialization re-send the file that generated the error.

  3. If the error re-appears, re-create the file and try printing again.

  4. If the file is PostScript, check to see if it is binary. If the file is binary, use AppleTalk to send the file to the printer. If AppleTalk is not being used to send the binary file to the printer, change the printer's internal PostScript settings to Binary (Set-up menu, PS settings, Encoding, Binary).

  5. If the error message persistss, check for a new release of the driver.

    Additional workaround:

    • Upgrade the printer's firmware (if upgrade is available).

    • Delete the Jetdirect port and recreate the port using Microsoft Standard TCP/IP port.
