Error might be within this document:
Interpreting Error Codes in Fax Communication Error or Fax History Reports
Excerpted:
Error Code: 344, 345, 346, 347, 348, 349 ECM, 350 ECM, 351 ECM, 352 ECM, 353 ECM, 354, 355
Definitions
- The remote machine failed to respond to a fax command from the local machine because the connection was interrupted. These errors can occur if the phone lines in the area to be faxed are old or there is noise (static on the phone line). Other reasons can include power outages and other power-related problems.
- The call-waiting service can cause this error. The click, heard for an incoming call, is actually a momentary disconnect of the line.
- The remote user pressed the Stop key while the reception was in progress.
- Under rare conditions, incompatibility between the two machines might cause the remote machine to abandon the call.
Solutions
- Retry the fax reception at a different time when telephone line conditions have improved. Call the telephone provider if line conditions fail to improve.
- Disable ECM. Errors might still occur, and might result in a degraded image quality on the received page. However, the ability to send the entire document will be improved.
- Try sending at a lower transmission speed.
============================================================================
Possible Underlying causes:
Poor phone line condition. Voice line can be pretty bad and still carry "voice" -- Fax needs less noise on the line to carry a fax communication. Most phone companies are not sympathetic because you are not paying for a data line.
Other possible solutions:
- Purchase a line filter for the phone line.
- Try a different line in your house -- could be one line is better than another. T'is true they all hook up to the same noisy outline line; the inside lines could be to blame for the issue.

After you have read the Fax Error Code document and eliminated causes listed:
Ideas
Depending on where on the planet you are located, you may have to prefix the fax number with "1".
You should check with your phone company and ask if 800 and 877 numbers are included in your service. In the USA, allowing calls to 800 / 866 /877 numbers is pretty standard; it does not mean every phone company adheres to the practice.
Call the company and ask if there is an alternate fax number you can try.
Try using the non-800 number for the company -- many companies provide both the "free" 800 number and a local-dial number.
Check your printer's User Guide for fax instructions and information.
