I have a new 8620 all in one at my office. I can't figure out how to make it print in just black and white when I want to..I have an 8600 at home that I use with my MAC and have no problem switching back and forth.

Hi @pjcag,

Thanks for reaching out to the forums! I understand that you would like to be able to set the printer driver to print in black and white. I would be happy to help you.

I checked on one of the Labs and the option is available, please try the steps below:
  • From the application, go to File, Print.
  • Under Color Matching, select Vendor Matching.
  • Under Paper/Type Quality, select Plain Paper.
  • Click on the Color Options arrow to expand the features available, then you will have the option to select Black Ink Only.

I have provided this document, HP Printers - Printing and Changing Print Settings (OS X) for changing the print settings in the driver. There is also information on how to make a preset for the black only setting.

If the issue is resolved and you appreciate my help, please click the "Accept as Solution" button and the "Thumbs Up". Let me know how you make out. Cheers!

That doesn't work. When I select vendor matching no other choices appear...all I can do is hit print and of course it prints in color

Thanks for getting back to me @pjcag.

I have provided a screen shot of the options that should be available to you.

Make sure the printer name is just listed as the Officejet 8620, just like in the screen shot.

You can include an image if you like of your print window, by clicking on the colored icon above.

What version of Mac are you using?

Did you download and install the full drivers?

Thank you.
