Hello, and welcome to the HP Community @CATMO,

I understand you would like to scan a document, and save it as a Microsoft Word file with your HP Deskjet 2540. I will do my best to help.

When you scan a document to your computer with the HP Deskjet 2540 it does not save as a file for a specific program, but rather as a PDF for documents, or a jpeg for photos. If you wish to edit the document after it has been scanned into a digital file, it is possible as long as you have an optical character recognition (OCR) software on your computer.

Below, I have posted a link to a document that offers some instructions on how to scan. Please try out all of the steps, in order and get back to me with the results.
