Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have a 2yr old HP 1510 and run Windows 10. Both OS and device are updated. When I scan, "documment" is my default setting. However, the page scans as a photo and not a document.

How you fix this largely depends on the program / application you are using to scan the document.

Even if the general default is set to "document", settings in the current program may override.

There are several can programs and options available, including the using Full Feature Software and the singularly awesome standalone program HP Scan Extended.

Thank You Dragon-Fur. However , neither solution worked. In fact when I tried the scan extended download I got an error message "2503"

Installer error -- did the download fail or the installation?

Edits 11-Feb-2017 -- Content update to clarify

Error 2502 / 2503 is an Installer Error.

Download / Installation Methods

These are provided because they are easy to try and "might" work.

Yellow_Arrow_Bullet_2.jpgDownload -- try a different browser (might work depending on the underlying reason you cannot download files)

Yellow_Arrow_Bullet_2.jpgInstallation -- try installing the software as "Admin"

Right-Click the installation package, select run as Administrator, and follow the installation instructions

Installer Error 2502 / Error 2503

Installer errors are usually not the result of errors in a particular product (for example, printer software).

Installer errors are usually a symptom of a problem within the File System on the computer:  perhaps a permission problem in a file or folder -- or an error within the Windows Installer itself.

This means you cannot fix Installer errors by simply changing your browser or reinstalling the software / program using the standard methods of "double-click" or "right-click-run-as-admin".

Yellow_Arrow_Bullet_2.jpgGeneral Installer Error 2502 / 2503

I do not have a single "sure fire" answer to this; an Internet search shows there are lots of different views, explanations, and fixes that depend on your File System and situation.

Try the Answers in this Microsoft Post:

Internal Error 2503/2502

NOTE:

The second answer in the Microsoft post is (in my mind) a bit difficult to understand.

A clearer explanation of the .msi method to fix the installer error is described here:

Error 2503 and 2502 when installing/uninstalling on Windows 8

Thanks Dragon-Fur.

Nothing seems to be working. I went to another browser with same negative results. The error code was on installation of HP scan extended. I have uninstalled and the reinstalled my printer and even that did not resolve the issue. Too frustrating and too much time for such an inexpensive device. Easier to replace device.

My apologies; I have edited my previous post -- while one of the two first ideas have a small chance of success, I meant to say that each of the ideas should be considered in turn to help resolve Installer Error 2502 / 2503.

The secondary problem (cannot install software) is likely not at all related to your original request.

The original issue / question:

If the issue is a setting, the fix is dependent on which program you are using to scan the document:

The name of the program you are using to scan:  Not Provided

Defaults can be overwritten / ignored.

If you have not done so, double check the Printing Preferences / Properties in your scan program settings to ensure that "document" is selected for the current scan job.

If you like, provide the name of the program you are using and how you are setting the job parameters.  Provide an image of the job setup, if you like.

If the issue is within the printer, then you can try setting the printer:

Thank You Dragon-Fur

As I said earlier nothing seems to be working. Too much agravation and time for such an inexpensive older device.

It is easier to replace. I appreciate your diligence.
