hp laser jet printer 1020 plus picking up two sheets of paper for a single page print

i cant seem to find a pattern but recently the printer is picking up two sheets of paper in place of one the print is not affected but the extra paper is not flat anymore hence making it unsuitable for printing for official use any suggestions thankyou in advance

Let me take a moment to thank you for posting on the HP Support Forums. 

I understand that you have an HP LaserJet 1020 Plus Printer and it picks two sheets of paper though it needs to print only one page. The print quality is unaffected, though. I'd like to assist you with this case.

I would like to know the following information to assist you better:

• Was there a paper jam or any such issues in the past
• Any other changes made to the printer?

Meanwhile, I recommend you to perform the following steps to isolate the issue and arrive at a fix: 

• Disconnect the power cable from the printer while the printer is still ON.
• Disconnect any other cables if connected the printer.
• Press and hold the printer’s power button for 15 seconds.
• The printer should be directly connected to the wall outlet and not to a surge protector. Reconnect the power cable to print and the printer should power ON by itself. If the printer doesn’t power ON then please manually power it ON.

Now please try to print and if the printer continues to print two sheets then I suggest you to perform the steps described in detail from this link.

there is no paper jam when it is taking two sheets , there was jamming issues about a year and half back  but i dont recall how i got it fixed

i do have the printer connected through a surge protector will update after trying out the solutions
