Just started using windows 8 on a new computer and can not use my hp laser jet p1505 printer. Keeps telling me that the printer is in error state. Just updated driver and software from hp site and still seeing the error. I disconnected the power cord and nothing.

Hi papofalconi,

Welcome to the HP Forums, I hope you enjoy your experience!

I see by your post that you are unable to print from the Window 8 computer and that you are getting a message that the printer is in a "error state".
I will be happy to help you.

I would do a power reset to see if that will resolve the issue.

With the printer still turned on, disconnect the power cable from the back of the printer.

Then disconnect the power cable from the wall outlet.

Wait 10 seconds and reconnect the power cable back to the wall outlet first, then the back of the printer and power it on again.

Make sure the printer is connected directly to a wall outlet. (don't use a power hub or a surge protector)

Try and print a hardware self test on the printer to find out if it is a hardware or software issue.

Open & close lid 5 times quickly. It will print out a paper with black lines on the page.

I have provided a document for blinking lights on the printer, in case that is causing this issue.

Blinking Lights.

Did you download the Hostbased Plug and Play Basic Driver or are you using a preinstalled Windows driver?

To check the name of the drivers installed, go to the start up screen, (tiles menu) type in "Devices and Printers", select settings, click on Devices and Printer. Usually the preinstalled driver will show the name of the printer and classic on the icon.

Here is the URL for the drivers. Select your operating system, click next and click on the software to download and install.

Try printing a self test from the computer.

If you require further help please provide the following information so I can help you better.

Did the self test print from the printer?

Are you getting any flashing lights on the printer?

Thank you for posting on the HP Forums.
Have a nice day!
