Hello paoinbc

What operating system are you using and does the Officejet work on your old PC/laptop? What application are you scanning with?

Hi:

My new laptops with Win7, The hp officejet 4100 all in one worked very well whit my old pc which had WinXP.Now it looks like the laptop cant not find the scanner. However, the printer is ok.

Thanks!

Hello paoinbc

The Officejet 4100 series does not have a downloadable driver for Windows 7. Instead the basic print driver is located within Windows. The following article has an FAQ at the bottom of the page including how do I scan with Windows.

The Driver for Your Product Is Included in the Windows 7 Operating System

Thanks for your reply. I tried this before. However it still doesn't work. It looks like the laptop can't find the scanner.

Hello paoinbc

What is the exact error you are receiving? Also did you try both Windows Fax and Scan and Paint?

Some common problems with with scanning include using too long of a USB cable o using a USB hub. How long is the current cable and are you plugged into a USB hub or the computer?

Hi:

The error I got is "deivce is not ready". USB cable is ok. Because printer is working well.

Thanks!

Hello paoinbc

Try the following steps to make sure the proper Windows Services are running to allow for scanning. You may also want to try the HP Scan Diagnostic Utility: http://www.hp.com/go/tools.

1. Type services.msc in run or search program and files
2. Scroll down to the WIA Windows Image Acquisition
3. Make sure that this service is running. Click Stop, and then Restart to make sure
4. Restart the computer

Restart the Dependencies services:
1. Click on Start, in Search box type “services” without quotes.
2. Scroll down until you see Windows Image Acquisition (WIA).
3. Double click on it and go to the tab called Dependencies.
4. 2 services should be listed.
5. Exit that window and look for Remote Procedure Call (RPC).
6. Make sure it’s on manual or if it is on Auto, just leave it. Make sure the service is started though.
7. Go to Shell Hardware Detection and Double click.
8. Set the Start up Type as Manual and hit Apply.
9. You should be able to Start the service by hitting Start.
10. Now you are done and the Twain Manager should be working and not give you an error.

Check dependencies or sub dependencies:

Right click on WIA (Windows Imaging Acquisition) selecting first properties and then the dependencies tab. It should list: Remote Procedure Call RPC and Shell Hardware Detection

Under RPC it will then list DCOM Service Process Launcher and RPC Endpoint Mapper Go back to the main services.msc list and then right click and start all the items listed as dependencies or sub dependencies under WIA

Thanks for your help! It still doesn't work. Today I press the power button by accident, the machine was turned off. After that I press the power button to turn on the machine and then the printer stop working. On my computer,I click the 'device and printer' then click the' hp officejet 4100 series' ,It  tells me the printer is offline. But the power light is green. I want know how can I change  the printer from "offline" to "ready"?

There is another thing surprised me:when the printer is offline the scanner is working. Right now I got scanner  no printer, How can I fix it? Thanks!

Hello paoinbc

Glad to hear the scan function is now working. For your "Printer Offline" message try the following article.
