Yes the right clicking on the folder devices and printers allowed me to scan.
Nothing directly seemed to work from the printer / scanner - did not recognize the computer connection, but from computer worked.
I'm also disappointed that not one mention of the scanner is included in the printed user manual. Seems like at least an insert page could have been provided.
Thank heavens for this forum that provided a way for me to scan.
Just bought my printer / scanner in November 2012.

Hello all,
007OHMSS made the second post in this thread and linked to an article that contains troubleshooting and steps to resolve the "No Scan Options" or "Scan settings are not set" error messages when you attempt to scan. Most often these messages occur when the Full Feature Software is not installed or not working properly. Sometimes it is also caused because the settings were not set after the installation.
The link below has the article. It has steps for Windows XP, Vista, 7, and 8 as well as Mac OSX 10.4-10.8
A 'No Scan Options' or 'Scan settings are not set' Message Displays on the All-in-One

I too am having a frustrating time with scanning on my HP4500 Wireless all in one. No scan options available and having to use the HP solution center which also does not allow me to use Microsoft word as a means of scanning. Will definitely choose another product if this is not corrected.

Hello jsm1945
Did you try the "No Scan Options" article from the post above? What operating system are you using and how is the printer connected? To verify are you using the Officejet 4500 Wireless model G510n?
Were you previously using Microsoft Office Word to scan with OCR (Optical Character Recognition)?

The HP4500 Wireless all in one is not the model G510n. I use Vista and I was not using Microsoft Office Word to scan with OCR.
Pray for a solution in will definitely give Kudos.
I am totally lost without the scan ability from the printer and hate the fact that scans through the Solution Center to Microsoft Word come out with funny characters and screwy words!!!!

My problem is the same. Printer doesn't allow direct scanning. Solution Center allows for scanning but when I try to scan document to Microsoft Word I get jumbled foreign letters and words. Have only been able to scan as picture and is not suitable for my work. Lemons do make lemonade and I am tired of it all. I am using Vista and have the Wireless all in one 4500
