hp officejet pro 6978
Mac OS X 10.11 El Capitan

Hello all!

I am a school teacher so being able to use a printer with ease is very important.  The last printer I had was a HP C4200  Photosmart Printer, I never had to change the settings of the printer, which was great!

Now I purchased this hp officejet pro 6978, I have to change the setting to what suits the size of the paper I want.  I would really love to print 3x5 index cards, however there is no option for printing with that, it states that there is a paper mismatch.

Do we know if there will be an update with the printer that will bring that 3x5 option in?  Or is there a defect with my printer?

Any help to get me printing 3x5 index cards would be GREAT!

Thanks in advance!

The Printer  Paper Handling Specifications show that the printer can print Custom Sizes:

88.9 to 215 mm (3.5 to 8.5 inches) wide and 127 to 355 mm (5.0 to 14.0 inches) long

That means:  smallest custom size = 3.5 inches X 5.0 inches

"A near miss".

Printer can create / use Custom Paper sizes:

If you can use / purchase a slightly larger Index card size, you can create a Custom form (if still necessary) to print.

Standard Card sizes (those not needing a "custom form") include:

To avoid paper jams and other issues, make sure you are using the correct size and type of cards when loading the input tray.
 NOTE:
Load card stock in input tray only. Card stock is not compatible for use with the ADF for single- or double-sided printing.
