I have seen this error message discussed many times without seeing any solution or any troubleshooting direction.

My scanner (hp scanjet g4050) used to work on my old XP machine here at the office. We got new computers with Window 7 64 bit OS and i have not been sucessful in installing & using the scanner. i tried installing as a Window 7 64 bit machine and the install stopped saying that my OS was XP 64 bit. So i downloaded and installed the XP 64 bit version of HP's software. It installed fin, but when I try to scan, the scanner will handshake and begin it's scan and stops and reports this error

4,[(0,7,80004005),(2,6,80040005),(3,6,0)]. along with a handfull of obvious trouble shooting guidelines (which i did try). any hope?

I have had precisely the SAME PROBLEM under the SAME SCENARIO. The scanner worked fine under 32-bit WinXP, but I can not get the scanner to work with my new 64-bit Win7..., and I've tried it on two different brand-new Dell 64-bit Win7 workstations.

I've tried every driver recommended by the HP web site. And I've tried every troubleshooting step recommended in the HP Print and Scan Doctor diagnostic tool from the HP web site.

If I have to replace my HP ScanJet G4050 with a new scanner, I guaran-**bleep**-tee that I won't be replacing it with another HP scanner!

I've been an HP fan for decades, but this scanner issue has pissed me off royally. I've lost crucial scanning capability. And I've lost gobs of hours jacking around with this idiotic issue.

HP Support should be monitoring this forum..., and they should be POSTING A FIX for what is apparently a repeatable problem!

HP..., are you listening?!?

i don't think they are listening. but i have not figured out why yet.

i bought this scanner on ebay. un damaged un opened box. all seals good.

the scanner is out of warrenty just.

installed by the book onto xp machine. lights come on. buttons on scanner activate appropriate software prompts. bottom carrage moves fine. both lights work.

BUT if i try to scan pdf, picture, negative, from software OR fom buttons i get .

software loads,

scanner turns on  and carrage moves to begining of scan area and thats it. with a error message. the detailed fault code is "4,[(0,7,80004005),(2,6,80040005),(3,6,0)]"

what does this code mean?? any clues? hardware? software?

the fault code suggests something specific but no one seems to know.

i've uninstalled and re- installed countless times and endless reboots. different usb ports. aplied the updates. installed the seemingly more up to date hp driver package from its site. get the same error.

i can confirm the psu is giving out 24.4 vdc

has anyone cone to understand what's wrong? or even might be wrong.

This is a peer to peer forum, not an official HP support site.
Have you tried contacting the HPSC?

sounds easy enough.

but i couldnt even find how to post a topic. hp support center enterprise seemed the neerest oblique environment to which you might refer.

 all seems orientated towards searching.

did find the posts area but no links available to post a new topic.

i'll try again tomorrow.

reminds me of a japanese film call IKURU. black and white 1940?'s film about beaurocratic powers and human determination.

It's not a forum.  Your product must be under warranty or have a support contract.

In that case i'm out of the picture. although the box was un opened the warrenty has expired.
