hp4527 only printing in black and white from Office Word

My printer does not print in colour when i send print from Word.  When I go to print and select "preferences" it doesnt even give me the option to print in either black and white or colour.  Not sure how else to check.  I am presuming the printer will tell me when the ink is low and to change a cartridge.  I have checked the ink levels on the printer and the colour is lower than the black cartridge but i though I had to wait to get a message before I replaced it.

I understand that you are unable to print in color from Word. Not to worry, I will be glad to help.

Kudos to you for trying to troubleshoot the issue on your own. 

Are you able to make a copy on your printer in color?

Are you able to print in color from other applications?

What is the operating system on your computer?

How is the printer connected to your computer? USB or wireless. 

As you have not mentioned the operating system, I am providing the method for both operating systems on how to change the settings from Black only to color. 

The title of the article is Black only, but it will help you find the setting to change it to color as well.
