I used up the initial black very quickly.  Installed a new non HP cartridge (at 1/4 the cost of HP) and it printed the diagnostic report fine.  Now, when I go back to print something else about 2 days later, I get the error message about non HP cartridge.  I followed all the steps they suggested, without any help.  I have a Photosmart 5510 all in one that is only one month old.  It was working fine and now I do not have a clue.

Hello Heils,

HP recommend using only Original HP ink cartridges. Please see this link for more info:

Now, with that information on the table, here is some troubleshooting you can do that may help with your situation:

Hope that helps!

Hello Gordon/HP support guys,

I have the same problem as the original poster. The alert message reads “Non-HP ink cartridge(s) installed. Magenta, Cyan, Yellow, Black. HP cannot guarantee the quality or reliability of non-HP supplies. Printer service or repairs required as a result of using a non-HP supply will not be covered under warranty. HP recommends that you do not remove an ink

cartridge until replacement is ready to install.”

NB the alert message does not say anything is wrong. Only that non-HP cartridges are installed. (Therefore the second link you give does not address this issue.) Then I am given further info: "HP cannot guarantee...will not be covered...HP recommends..." All of which I duly note. Now, I wish to proceed with my choice to use non-HP cartridges.  But there is no option to do so. The appearance is that this is not a problem with the cartridge at all but HP blocking the use of non-HP cartridges and forcing customers to buy HP cartridges.

Is this the case? If not, how do I choose to go ahead?

Sincerely

Kebba

I too find my printer to be blocked from all but HP test prints once installing non-HP ink cartridges. Very sad HP, and likely illegal.

I have an HP- M1217 and also get "NON HP supply installed" after buying off brand cartridge.

Have tried removing restarting etc.

This has got to be illegal for HP to do.
