I have a HP M5035 MFP (Q7830A) which was giving me an error message of “DOWNLOAD FILE NOW SEND RFU UPGRADE ON USB DEV PORT” and I was also getting an error message of “49.4C18 error”. After searching the internet I successfully got past these messages by holding the STOP button as the MFP booted up. I tried to update the firmware on the MFP via the printers Embedded Web Server software, this failed due to an error. I then tried to update the firmware with the ljM5025-35mfp_fw_utility_48_362_6.exe firmware installer file, this too also failed due to an error. I then tried MSDOS Prompt with a USB connection and successfully copied the firmware to the MFP and it successfully installed. I printed the Configuration Page and on the configuration page the “firmware datacode:” now states 20151029 48.362.6 and not the older 20061210 48.015.9 version. However when I reboot the HP M5035 MFP it fails to reboot and I now have a new message in the screen “DOWNLOAD FILE IMAGE CRC ERROR SEND RFU UPGRADE ON USB DEV PORT” and I also have “1/6” at the bottom centre of the screen.
I have successfully installed the firmware again using the MSDOS Prompt, but once the printer is rebooted it returns to the above message “DOWNLOAD FILE IMAGE CRC ERROR SEND RFU UPGRADE ON USB DEV PORT” and I also have “1/6” at the bottom centre of the screen.
Is the memory / motherboard faulty? Can someone please help?

Issue seems to be with Formatter board of the printer unit.
Try reseating it and update the firmware again. If same issue, the formatter needs to be replaced. Please contact HP Tech support team before replacing the Formatter and confirm once.

@davidzuts wrote:I could be wrong on this one but I think the firmware is stored on the hard disk attached to the formatter. Your issue may be the hard disk and not the formatter itself.
I have replaced the Formatter Board with some success, the printer is now working again, with only one issue that I can see. If I reboot / turn off & on the printer, it does boot up again however it looks like it runs through the firmware installation cycle each time. Which leads me to think the hard disk on the formatter broad is also a problem. Can I just install a new hard disk or what setting up is required to a new hard disk below installing?

Have you had any luck with this? I am experiencing the same problem now with an HP Laserjet M5035MFP.
It's original problem was that it kept saying "Initializing Scanner," but the scanner would not initialize. If the customer power cycled the machine, it would come back up and work for a while and then it would continue. It also shows multiple 30.01.34 erros in the history. This leads me to believe it's a problem with the formatter board.
Were you able to finally get the firmware updated after replacing the formatter board? Or did you need to replace the HDD as well?
Thanks for the help.

Hi MBoehler,
I have my HP Laserjet M5035MFP working again, However I note from your description that your problem is "Initializing Scanner", I had a similar problem (I can’t remember the error message) last year, I had to replace the scanner assembly Part Number Q7829-60185 (the section where the control panel is located), so I believe your customer has a problem with the scanner assembly and not the formatter broad.
I didn’t replace the HDD just the formatter broad & the scanner bed (in 2015), the printer is working again, but if I reboot (turn off & on the printer), it does run through the firmware installation cycle each time. So I do think the HDD is the next thing to be replaced.
Regards
Gene
