Thanks for the question.  It has helped me decide what to buy.

Ok so the expensive printer I purchase only uses HP cartridge?   Simple yes or no would be suffice.

this video will explain it. [edit]

Yes  the question and it's evasive answer helped me too.  I am off of HP after 24 years of HP printers.

I bought a different brand.

It's outrageous that all of the sudden you take away functionality with a firmware update.

I also had to go out a buy a new printer.

SO LONG HP!

This worked nicely!   Thanks for the advice.   I will be avoiding the purchase of HP printers in the future.

Have been a satisfied customer of HP for years.  Now I'm trying to get my printer to work for my seasonal tax business only to find out that by changing my non-HP ink cartridge (which has worked for years) my printer won't print or copy.  Seems like the firmware update by HP in April 2019 coupled with my non-HP ink cartridge replacement has made my HP OfficeJet Pro 8710 a paperweight unless I choose to buy their expensive cartridges or sign up for Instant Ink.  I will choose my other option which is to purchase a competitor's printer, hope [edit]Good riddance HP.

My M1536dnf is now gone It was great printer until last year, then it started malfunctioning.

I did not replace it with another HP product.  My advice is that anyone buying a modern printer.checks for available work- a-rounds before making their purchase.
