Wow, that's awesome!  What a savings on the waterslide decal paper!  If applied to damp/ leather hard clay, what are your suggestions for cone temp firing to get a crisp image?  I've found that I usually apply the laserjet toner decal to glazed stoneware pieces (cone 03-05 bisque, cone 5-8 glaze) and fire very low cone 022 to cone 019.  In test pieces I've found that it produces a range where 022 remains a graphic black, where the intervals to 021-018 start to burn out giving gradations of russet brown.

Though I have yet to try this out, I have been thinking about either using a ball mill with black iron oxide, or mixing an interesting concoction with old make-up (most smoky black eyeshadows are black iron oxide) and attempting to refill an inkjet cartridge on one of my old crappy printers...

I don't know what you mean since I've been using HP 1102w for decals for at least 2 years.

Hello, this is an exhaustive list.  Thanks!!!  I'm wondering if any of these are new common easy to find (i.e. Staples or Future Shop).  I have been printing decals successfully with old hp printers but they are all old, glitchy and breaking down.  I'm doing this as part of my business so am looking into buying something new and reliable, but hopefully still economical.  Suggestions on models to look for or do all the new printers use carbon?

Thank you so much for this very exhaustive list.

Has anyone used any of the printers / copiers listed successfully? And are you happy with the results?

I'd appreciate any feedback before I go and buy one.

Thanks a lot to anyone answering.

I bought an HP laserjet 4000 printer so that I could do decal transfere on ceramics.  The used printer came with toner HP c4127X. This did not work for me as the image burned out. Somewhere in the forum I read to check the toner with a magnet. I did that and there is no pull on the magnet. I bought a OEM new toner cartridge in original un opened box in case the one supplied with the printer was refilled with different ink. I tried the magnet on this cartridge and it did not pull either. Am I missing something here. Should the box say MICR or should all toners for this printer have the iron oxide. I dont want to take the new cartridge out of the plastic to try it because I'm hoping if it is the wrong one that perhaps I can resell it. The only HP 4127 toner with MICR that I can find is from refillers. Any suggestions will help.

I read somewhere and found a reply written by someone from HP. It might be helpful.. Hopefully! Let me know what you find out!

Thanks for the Troy info. Will look into that.

Thanks for the great link Ken!

Is more than one toner cartridge compatible with various printers?

For instance, I am looking at the inexpensive 1102W. The toner it uses is CE285A, which is not on the iron oxide list. But in the list you made, it says the 1100 series uses c4092A which does have iron oxide.

So is the 1102w a 1100 series printer and will it fit the c4092A?

thanks, Patsy Cunningham

I think the point that is being missed here is that it is not iron oxide, per se, that is important for the ceramics transfers, it is iron.  So while the MSDS for the toner cartridge for the P1102w does not list iron oxide, it does list 45% ferrite, which is iron.  So no worries with the 1102w.

Thanks, that is just what I needed to know. I thought it was specific to the oxide
